신생아 발육, Development in newborn infants

신생아기(생후 0~28일간) 이후부터 18세가 될 때까지 소아청소녀들의 발육(발달)에 관해서 알아볼 때 소아과학에서는 소아청소녀들(소아들)의 발육을

- 신체 발육,
- 손 발육,
- 언어 발육과
- 사회성 발육 등으로 크게 나눈다.

참고로 “발육”을 “발달”이라고도 한다.
여기에서는 신생아 발육에 관해서 주로 다룬다.
부모들이 자녀들을 양육할 때 자녀가 얼마나 잘 발육됐는지, 어느 정도로 발육이 지연되어 있는지 알아볼 수 있게 소아 발육에 관한 정보를 [부모도 반의사가 되어야 한다]-소아가정간호 백과 제 3권에서 정보를 제공한다.
여기에 있는 거의 모든 신생아 발육에 관한 정보는 미소아과 학회에서 얻은 정보이다. 그러나 미국 신생아들과 한국 신생아들의 발육은 대동소이하다.
참고로 특히 소아 성장 발육학을 전공한 소아과 전문의는 신생아를 포함해서, 소아 성장 발육에 전문지식을 더 많이 가지고 있다.
신생아들의 성장발육의 문제나 신생아 이후 소아 성장 발육에 어떤 문제가 생길 때 때로는 성장 발육 전문의의 도움을 받아야 할 때도 있다.
